The story of Ignite Sports Club, Ravensthorpe

A father, a son and a number.

Wingrove

Wingrove Manners gave a large part of his life to coaching children through sport. Sometimes it was tennis, sometimes football, and sometimes it was simply taking the time to listen. For a lot of young people, the court or the pitch was where they learned discipline, respect and belief in themselves. He brought sport into local neighbourhoods and gave young people somewhere good to put their energy.

Jermaine

His son took it further than most. Jermaine Manners plays Racketlon, which is four sports in one match: table tennis, badminton, squash and tennis. He is a two-time world champion, in the over-40 and over-45 singles. For more than a decade he has also coached in schools, with children of every age and ability.

“The centre is designed to help people of all ages learn, grow, and enjoy a variety of sports, building confidence and a love for athletic challenges.”

Ignite

The club was formed in 2025 with a simple aim: a high-quality, welcoming place where people of all ages can enjoy sport, get better at it and belong to something.

Wingrove, 55.

In Austria in 2022, Jermaine played the world championships with the name Wingrove and the number 55 on his shirt. That shirt is why our colours are yellow and green, and why there are two 5s in our name if you look for them.

Where this is going.

We want to grow into larger premises, bring in more sports, and become a proper community hub: somewhere to take part, to improve and to meet people. The goal is to keep it affordable and open, so that Wingrove's idea of sport for the neighbourhood carries on.
