How 24/7 access works
A daytime pickleball rally at Ignite, seen from the lounge, with a paddle and a beginner's guide to pickleball on a stool in front

Never played pickleball? Good.

Most people who walk in have not. It is the easiest racket sport to start, and most people are rallying on their first visit.

  1. 1A solid bat, a light plastic ball with holes in it, and a court the size of a badminton court.
  2. 2You serve underarm, diagonally, and the ball has to bounce once on each side before anyone can volley.
  3. 3The strip by the net is called the kitchen. No volleying while you are stood in it.
  4. 4Games go to 11 and you have to win by two. Singles or doubles.

Jermaine Manners at the 2022 Racketlon World Championships in Austria, wearing a yellow shirt with green trim that reads Wingrove 55

The name on the shirt was Wingrove.

Wingrove Manners spent a large part of his life coaching local children through sport. Tennis, football, or simply taking the time to listen. His son Jermaine went on to win two Racketlon world titles, and at the 2022 world championships he wore the name Wingrove and the number 55 on his shirt. Ignite is built to carry that on.

Do I have to be a member?

No. Anyone can book a court or a table by the hour. There is a table tennis membership if you play a lot, but you never need one to play.

Do I need my own bat?

No. Bats and balls are provided and waiting beside the court. Bring trainers and a drink.

What happens when I arrive and nobody is there?

That is normal outside staffed hours. Your confirmation email has your door code and tells you how to turn the lights on. Key the code in, walk in, play.

Is it safe at night?

The door only opens with a code from a booking, and CCTV runs 24 hours a day. We ask everyone to respect the hall and each other so it stays a place people want to come back to.

How much is it?

A pickleball or touch tennis court is £20 an hour. A table tennis table is £10 an hour. Match play is from £8 and the Friday youth club is £2.50.

I have never played. Is that a problem?

No. Pickleball especially is built for beginners, and there is an adult coaching hour for £15 if you would like someone to show you.
